gives rise to The Three Sisters (Kashmir). In its vicinity lies the great
Himalayan glaciers of Kashmir Valley namely Kolhoi Glacier and Machoi Glacier
with some peaks of above 5000 meters: Sirbal Peak, Kolhoi Peak, Amarnath Peak
and Machoi Peak. Sonamarg an alpine valley is situated at the bank of Nallah
Sindh, 87 km north-east from Srinagar, it is a popular tourist destination,
nestled with in the imposing Himalayan peaks. It lies at an altitude of 2800
metres above sea level. The drive to Sonamarg is through yet another
spectacular facet of country side in Kashmir, this time it’s the Nallah Sindh,
the largest tributary of the Jehlum River in the valley of Kashmir. It is
upwards of sixty miles long valley and deep rock-girt gorge to open grassy meadow
land and village-dotted slopes
Srinagar is the summer capital of the Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated in the Kashmir Valley and lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus. The city is famous for its gardens, lakes and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dry fruits.
Amarnath cave is a Hindu shrine located in Jammu and Kashmir,
India. It is dedicated to Shiva. The cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m
about 141 km from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir and reached through
Pahalgam town. The shrine forms an important part of Hinduism, and is
considered to be one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. The cave is
surrounded by snowy mountains. The cave itself is covered with snow most of the
year except for a short period of time in summer when it is open for pilgrims.
Thousands of Hindu devotees make an annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave on
challenging mountainous terrain to see an ice stalagmite formed inside the cave.
